I have a great deal of respect for the people who put this study together. Having gone through a lawsuit with the Vinyl Institute, I have the beginnings of an understanding of the effort that went into this report.
Having said that, I cannot help but wonder how much of the conclusion of this study was driven by the USGBC’s highest priority: Don’t get sued.

I do not understand why the USGBC cannot or will not take a position of “no regrets” with respect to PVC. As this report and many others indicate, there is significant evidence that the use of PVC is harmful to people and the environment. Is this not enough information with which to make “a reasoned decision”?

It is difficult not to draw a comparison between the USGBC’s position on PVC and the current administration’s position on global warming, or previous administrations’ positions on smoking: the science doesn’t support concerns.
